A new rainbow crossing that uses the progress flag design has been proposed by the City of Sydney for an area near Taylor Square in Darlinghurst.
Residents are being asked for feedback on the proposed crossing, which will be at the intersection of Bourke and Forbes streets in Darlinghurst.
There is currently no dedicated pedestrian crossing across Bourke and Forbes St, which is set to change to allow for easier access to the newly opened Qtopia queer history and cultural space.
The crossing will feature the progress flag design to represent the changed environment of the local area, the City of Sydney said.
It will be just a stone’s throw away from the current rainbow crossing at Taylor Square on Campbell and Bourke streets.
Independent City of Sydney Councillor Adam Worling said on Instagram that the crossing was part of his motion which also included changes to the existing one at Taylor Square.
“This was part of my Notice of Motion at Council last September and also includes the soon-to-be-upgraded rainbow crossing to include the Progressive Pride artwork on the Corner of Campbell and Bourke Streets,” he said.
“I encourage all to submit their thoughts on this exciting project,” he said.
Community consultation is open until May 8, with residents encouraged to provide feedback online.
