The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir will host one of its biggest performances ever this weekend during its “Back to the 80s” concert.

The show will feature 100 singers, eighteen classic 80s songs, a five-piece live band and of course 80s 80s-inspired costumes.

“It’s going to be an 80s extravaganza with incredible themed costumes and 80s hits featuring everyone from Queen, to Madonna and of course Cyndi Lauper,” said Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir president Jodey Schneider.

Schneider told GSN that rehearsals began back in January and have been rehearsing every Thursday since.

“We put on major performances twice a year like this one that are our paid gigs and then throughout the year we will attend other community events,” she said.

The choir itself has been running for more than thirty years and currently has more than 160 members.

“You don’t have to have any previous experience, you can just rock up. We are the largest community choir in Sydney and possibly even for all of Australia,” she said.

The setlist for Saturday’s performance at the Seymour Centre in Chippendale features an “eclectic mix of rock, pop and new age 80s” with the likes of Flashdance, Diana Ross, Madonna and the Eurythmics.

“I am very partial to Girls Just Want To Have Fun but of course who can also go past a bit of Bonnie Tyler,” Schneider said.

All are welcome at the choir, which features a diverse range of ages and experiences.

“Come along, it’s going to absolutely change your life. Not only can you sing and bring joy to your life and others, but you’re also going to build a family,” Schneider said.

There are two shows on Saturday: at 5pm and 8pm, with both running for two hours.

Tickets are currently available for $60. Concession cardholders pay $50.
