Exclusive: Aidan Maese-Czeropski, also known as the “Senate Twink”, has given an interview for the first time since becoming embroiled in a scandal involving allegations he had sex in a US Senate hearing room.
Speaking exclusively to Gay Sydney News, Maese-Czeropski revealed how the incident profoundly impacted his mental health and ultimately led him to a fresh start in Sydney, Australia.
The scandal, which captured global attention in December 2023, led to significant emotional turmoil.
“Mentally, I spent a little bit in the psych ward after the fact because it was just … it’s overwhelming to realise and to know that tens of millions of people literally despise you.”
Following a mental breakdown shortly after the incident, Maese-Czeropski bought a one-way ticket to Cape Town, South Africa. His journey took an unexpected turn after meeting a New Zealand traveller, who eventually convinced him to move to Sydney – a city he had never visited.
“She told me, ‘Aiden, you should move to Sydney, you would love it there, you would fit right in, you could get a fresh start,'” he said. “I took a risk…I love it here and I’m glad that I took that jump … because it is the greatest city in the world.”
Professionally ostracised in Washington, DC, after the scandal, Maese-Czeropski struggled to find employment, facing relentless public scrutiny and rejection.
“Everyone in DC knew me, and it was kind of gross and horrifying because I’m not someone who likes to be in the public spotlight at all,” he explained. He eventually found stable employment in Sydney, earning significantly more than his previous $38,000 USD salary.
Mental health remains a key aspect of his recovery. “My therapist told me you have PTSD, and I don’t have any shame in that,” he shared candidly. “When you go through something like that, it is just overwhelming and difficult to even comprehend.”
Reflecting on the scandal, Maese-Czeropski feels the backlash was intensified by societal judgment toward passive partners in sex scandals.
“I’ve noticed…the passive partner tends to take more of the blame,” he noted. “I got all these death threats, hatred. And the guy who was the top didn’t.”
Since moving to Australia, Maese-Czeropski has embraced the playful nickname “Senate Twink” as a conversation starter and has ventured into creating content on OnlyFans.
“I got some flack when I first created my OnlyFans ’cause people were like, ‘OK, he’s washed up, why is he doing this now, who cares?” he revealed.
“But it’s not just about the money…it’s also about my mental health. It’s also about my family and their mental health. I just needed a lot of time to process the scandal because it was very, very difficult.”
Maese-Czeropski is currently spending time in California but plans to return to Australia in late April. Once back, he will work in Cairns for 88 days to meet the working holiday visa requirements before relocating back to Sydney.
He prioritises outdoor activities and mental wellness, also harbouring dreams of establishing a pigeon sanctuary.
“My dream in life is to open a pigeon sanctuary. I’m very into birds. I love pigeons,” he said.
His advice to others thrust into unwanted fame echoes his personal resilience: “You cannot be terminally online…people online will say crazy shit about you. Just ignore it, touch grass, honestly.”
Maese-Czeropski sees his move to Australia as more than just a change in location – it marks a year of exploration and healing.
