CEO Michael Lewis and owner Kevin Du-Val of the soon-to-be-launched gay club on Oxford Street, which was initially set to be named after lesbian Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony” song – despite its target demographic being gay men – have apologised for offence in an open letter to the community.
Pink Pony
News of a new Sydney club called Pink Pony initially gave lesbians like me hope for a venue where we could truly feel at home, writes Isabella Freeland (@bellabeenaa).
Sydney’s soon-to-launch gay bar Pink Pony has changed its Instagram handle to “new.name.coming” following online backlash that accused the venue of culturally appropriating a song by a lesbian artist about inclusivity while at the same time marketing itself primarily towards gay men.
Pink Pony, the new Sydney club set to take over management of Flash’s former Oxford Street venue Two 3 One, will “unashamedly” position itself as being for gay men aged 18-35, feature dance pop and harder house/tech style music, and undergo a revamp before opening at the start of summer.
A new gay club is coming to Sydney, this time at Flash’s old digs at 231 Oxford Street, Paddington.
